The Sussex Railroad

Within a short time, it had been completely rebuilt as a steam powered road and was renamed the Sussex Railroad. While some ore was transported behind a steam locomotive as early as September of 1854, the line officially opened on December 11, 1854, allowing Sussex County folk to ride the rails from Newton to Waterloo.
