Water tower footings from Newton trainyard

A few years ago a development was built on the far end of Merriam Avenue in Newton. This involved extending the street from Paterson Avenue about a half mile and thence connecting to Rt. 206. After motorists started using this section of Merriam Avenue, the new residents there complained about the traffic. The town of Newton placed concrete blocks at the end of the road to prevent automobile access.

These blocks must have been facing a certain way because it was just last month that I realized they looked 'familiar.' I went over, photographed and measured them, then compared the measurements to the water tower footing at Branchville Junction--an exact match!
